About the name

We get a lot of compliments on our name, and we take its meaning seriously. We’re not interested in media because it’s trendy or new. We’re committed to providing our clients with the tools, content, training, and strategic solutions – whatever they may be – that are truly useful to their goals.

Who we are

Visual storytellers. Interactive experience designers. Digital media educators.

Dan Winckler founded the Really Useful Media Company in 2007 as an outgrowth of his graduate work in digital media. He oversees the design and execution of all technical aspects of the company’s work, always drawing on both his professional background across a range of media as well as the curiosity and love of learning that have lead to his deep knowledge of video, streaming media, interactive environments and projection design. Dan graduated from William & Mary with a BA in Literary Studies and also holds an MS in Interactive Digital Media from Polytechnic University (now BXMC at Poly:NYU) in Brooklyn. Emily brings over a decade of professional experience in education, international development, and nonprofit management. Her work in both long established organizations and start-up environments lends itself to her role working with partners and clients, understanding the unique needs of the nonprofit and cultural sectors, and managing relationships as well as projects. She holds a BA in International Development Studies and History from McGill University in Montreal and an MA in International Education Development from Teachers College, Columbia University.
